A NEW bridge could be built over a canal.

Halton Borough Council has received an application for planning permission in order to create the road link over the Bridgewater Canal in Daresbury.

Applicant Redrow Homes is proposing the structure as part of its scheme to build new housing off Delph Lane.

Submission documents stated: “Currently, there is no access directly between the A558 and the A56 through the site.

“However, a new all-movements signal-controlled access is proposed as part of these proposals to the north of the A558 and junction improvements to the east of the A56 – along with the strategic infrastructure works, including a new road bridge over the Bridgewater Canal and creation of a spine road – will link the two roads through the wider site.

“The new road – being longer, designed at a slower speed and having traffic signals partway along to create one-way movement under the Chester to Warrington local railway line – is considered less attractive to passing traffic than using the A56 and A558, therefore it is unlikely to attract pass-through traffic.”

Sites located either side of the canal have been earmarked for up to 462 two, three and four-bedroom houses.

A consultation on the proposals for the new bridge is ongoing and runs until Thursday, January 27.
