PROPOSALS to deliver a new education facility on the site of a former secondary school in Ellesmere Port are on display and people are being urged to give their views.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is planning to relocate The Bridge Short Stay School’s Ellesmere Port facility to the site of the former Ellesmere Port Specialist School of Performing Arts at Woodchurch Lane, Ellesmere Port.

Pave Aways Building Contractors, which recently completed the new zero carbon extension at Blacon School for the council, has been appointed to build the new school and is keen to hear people’s views ahead of a planning application being submitted in January.

Victoria Lawson, Pave Aways’ commercial director, said: “We have been developing proposals to meet the requirements of the school and students but we are keen to hear what people think.

“The new school development will include general classroom space, offices, and dining facilities as well as hard and soft landscaping – it’s an exciting project and we are delighted to be involved.”

The proposals are available to view online at resultscommunications.co.uk and comments can be provided until 11.59pm on January 18.

Andy Stewart, headteacher at The Bridge Short Stay School, added: “The Bridge exists to change young people’s lives, this proposed project will give us the purpose built facilities that enable us to have an even greater impact on the young people in our community.

“I’m excited to be working so closely with Pave Aways in developing the design and grateful to the council for their support in a project which will make a huge difference to our students.”

Once the planning application is submitted, Cheshire West and Chester Council will hold a statutory consultation, giving people another chance to comment on the proposals.

The Bridge Short Stay School is a pupil referral unit, catering for young people across Cheshire West and Chester. The majority of students have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools or found themselves without a school place.

All students are offered support within a personalised programme to give them a second opportunity to succeed in education.
