THE girls’ football team at Little Sutton C of E Primary School have qualified to play in the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) North West County Finals of the U11 Girls’ Cup, representing the Ellesmere Port School Sports Partnership.

The Little Sutton girls’ team played and won six games in the ESFA tournament to qualify for the finals and were the top goal scorers with a total of eight goals, and no goals conceded.

Taking place on January 28 at the home of Crewe Alexandra Football Club, 20 girls’ primary school football teams from across the North West will play at the county finals for the chance of being crowned the top team.

Callum Bowness is the Year 6 teacher at Little Sutton C of E Primary School and the girls’ football team manager, and said he was proud of the resilience, bravery, and strength shown by the girls in the tournament.

He said: “This is an incredibly special group of girls, each of whom manage to combine competitiveness with a sense of humour and a love of the game.

"They continue to grow and improve as individual players and as a team. Our recent success is just the start – we’ve been putting in the training hours in preparation for the county finals.

"The sky is the limit for our girls. Our aim is to keep having fun and enjoy this journey that we are on!”

Success for the girls’ football team at Little Sutton follows previous sporting success for the school, including first place at the 2019 Ellesmere Port and Neston Cross Country Finals, a Virtual School Games Mark awarded in 2019/20 and a Silver School Games Mark in 2018/19.

Pupils at the school benefit from school day coaching with a dedicated sports coach.
