YOUNGSTERS at a Chester school have been encouraged to put their best feet forward in an eco-friendly scheme.

The Firs Independent School Chester, for boys and girls aged two to 11 years old, recently relaunched its 'Park-N-Stride’ initiative.

It encourages pupils to either walk, bike or scoot from home or park at the nearby church, St Columba's, and walk the short distance down the hill.

For every walk undertaken children can collect a sticker in their beautiful new sticker book which was designed by the children.

Headteacher Rosemary Evans said: "Our enthusiastic Junior Safety Officers will welcome children, who have walked, biked or scootered with a sticker every day to add to their collection. Stickers can be collected at the beginning or the end of the day.

"As a school we are very committed to sustainability and this is just one initiative that we are undertaking. We were one of the first schools in the country to ban palm oil from our foods and we are always striving to look at ways to contribute to our environment and inspire the children to take action.

"We were recently awarded the Independent Schools Association National Green School Award, for our innovations such as Park 'n' Stride, our eco brick bench, Year 6 Eco Warriors, eco clubs and many other important initiatives such as these."
