NEVER go to bed on an argument, that's the secret of 60 years of marriage according to the Owens.

John, 82 and Beryl, 79 Owen of Old Mapsis Way, Morda celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary this week and were thrilled to receive a card from the Queen congratulating them.

The couple married at St Michael’s church, Llanfihangel on Novermber 25, 1961.

They first met at Bellan House School, Oswestry when John was delivering the fruit and veg to Beryl who was a cook in the kitchen and they both say it was love at first sight.

The Owens' have two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with a third on the way. They previously lived at Nant-y-Caws, Sweeney Mountain.

John and Beryl will be well known to many Oswestry shoppers as they had a fruit & veg business on the market then John went on to be a gardener at the Sweeney Hotel and for Mr Lloyd from Lloyds Animal Feed. Beryl went on to be a full time house wife

John retired when he was 80 and Beryl about 10 years ago.

When asked what the secret to a successful marriage is the couple said: "Give and take and do as your told in John’s case!"

They celebrated their anniversary with plenty of visitors on the day. They had fish and chips with one their grandchildren for tea but they want to celebrate with the whole family in the new year when everything has settled.

What advice would they give to couples thinking about getting married?

They said: "You must help and support each other always tell each other how much you love each other and never go to bed on an argument."
