A MUM has set up her own funeral home after nearly a decade in the industry.

Helen Horne has established Helen Horne Funeral Directors in Orford after nine years of service with an established firm.

And the new business, based on Longford Street, is a family affair – with her daughter Amelia employed as a receptionist and social media manager while training in digital marketing and funeral arranging.

The mother-of-three said: “I found it very hard to fulfil my role as funeral director in the company that I was with as it’s a male dominated world.

“So, with a wealth of experience I decided to open my own funeral home.

“Nobody was going to stop me from doing the job I had trained so hard to achieve and love.

“Our funeral home is small, quiet and tranquil – we have tried to make the funeral home a place where families feel comfortable and at ease rather than a cold uninviting office.

“We have been welcomed into the local community and have helped with some local community events over the last few months.”

The funeral directors has already sponsored St Rocco’s Hospice’s Forget Me Not appeal and is collecting items for the Room at the Inn homeless shelter’s Christmas drive.
