Whether fish is your dish or chips and mushy peas take your fancy, is there anything more British than enjoying a portion of fish and chips?
Vinegar brand Sarson’s has revealed this year’s Official Guide to the UK’s Quality Fish and Chip Shops 2021 and there are 16 places in the North West on the list - four of which are in Cheshire.
Each year the National Federations of Fish Friers (NFFF) join forces with Sarson’s to rank the top chippies in the UK based on a thorough assessment of the premises and equipment, the working practices, hygiene standards and management controls, together with, of course, the quality and taste of the fish and chips.
Catherine Martin, Brand Manager for Sarson’s said: “We congratulate all the Fish & Chip shop operators across the UK that are featured in this year’s NFFF 2021 guide!
“As the UK’s number 1 vinegar brand, we share the NFFF’s value for the culture of Fish & Chips and are delighted to support this badge of quality recognising the best Fish & Chip shops, who work tirelessly to serve one of our nation’s favourite dishes”.
What are the best fish and chip shops in Cheshire according to Sarson's?
Fish and Chips @ Weston Grove
Where: Unit 1 Weston Grove, Upton, Chester
Close to Chester Zoo, this family-run chippy has a passion for sustainability and being plastic-free.
The Good Catch
Where: 160 Stamford Park Road, Hale
It’s no surprise that this chippy made the list given it’s 5* hygiene rating and modern take on eco-friendliness.
Taylor’s Award-Winning Fish & Chips
Where: 7 Woodley Precinct, Woodley, Stockport
After frying Britain’s favourite dish for over 55 years, Taylors in Stockport made the list proving they know how to make customers in the North West happy.
Hooked on the Heath
Where: Northwich Road, Knutsford, Cheshire
Earlier this year this chippy made the list of the top 50 fish and chip shops in the UK as part of the National Fry Awards. It’s great value just £8.80 for cod, chips and mushy peas.
