MOTORISTS are now banned from taking a dangerous manoeuvre in a Cheshire West town centre.
Earlier this month it was reported that Cheshire West and Chester council were taking steps to stop motorists turning left from Watling Street on to the High Street/Weaver Way by Natwest Bank in Northwich.
It came after residents and the town council made requests for the Highways department to investigate the potential of implementing a no left turn order.
Motorists have regularly come unstuck attempting to pull off the move, with the town mayor saying it was dangerous.
It hasn't taken highways officers very long to put the order into effect, with new signage now in place on the traffic lights at the junction, making the no left turn position clear.
Speaking to the Guardian about the move, town mayor, Cllr Sam Naylor, said he was glad to finally get something done, as it had been causing issues for a long time.
He said: "I've been campaigning about this for ages.
"What you've got is people coming over the bridge and turning left and it's just not suitable.
"It's just not designed for doing that and it's dangerous."
