A NEW hotel featuring an Italian-inspired café and all-day restaurant is set to open in Chester city centre next month.

It was confirmed back in the summer that Leonardo Hotels had signed an agreement for a 94-bed hotel within the Grosvenor Shopping Centre on Pepper Street.

The announcement came after The Standard revealed back in April that Premier Inn had pulled the plug on its own plans for a hotel, along with a Bar + Block restaurant, at the vacant site.

The hotel chain had been due to take on the lease for the completed building within the centre, but had decided against it after "the developer went into administration during construction" resulting in "long delays".

Planning permission for the development was granted back in 2018.

Leonardo Hotels, Europe’s largest and fastest growing hotel chain, has now confirmed that the new Chester hotel and Corvo café, bar and restaurant will launch on November 4.

Chester and District Standard:

The chain says the hotel will feature contemporary, relaxing interiors alongside stylish en-suites and mini-fridges. Room service will also be available for those who want to relax and dine in their room.

Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a cocktail at the bar, guests can head to Corvo on the ground floor, which will provide Italian light dishes and refreshments for both business travellers requiring working lunches and tourists who can enjoy a cocktail and a bite to eat before heading out to explore the city.

Jason Carruthers, managing director for Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be opening our first Leonardo Hotel in Chester.

"The city has a truly unique atmosphere and we’re excited to be located right in the centre, surrounded by its ancient history and culture, from the Roman Amphitheatre and Gardens, which are just footsteps away from our door, to Foregate Street, which is brimming with shops and cafes.

“In the run-up to Christmas, there’ll be thousands of visitors to the city, coming to experience the markets, do some Christmas shopping and sightsee and we’re so pleased to be able to open in time to be part of that."

To celebrate opening, there will be a special rate available until the end of January.
