FREE Covid tests are on offer as part of the precautions being put in place to keep this weekend's Diwali festival celebrations in Chester as safe as possible.

Last year's event had to be cancelled as a result of the pandemic, but the Hindu festival of light celebrations make a welcome return to the city on Saturday (October 23).

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s community testing buses will be outside the town hall between 10.30am and 12.30pm on the day of the event, which begins at noon.

Getting a Lateral Flow Test s free and visitors can also pick up free testing kits to use at home.

Council leader Louise Gittins said: ”Diwali is such a colourful, joyous occasion and just what we need after lockdown and our recent wet weather.

"However, we all need to keep safe when we are celebrating or just out and about and be respectful of the health, fears and concerns of others."
