HERE are the latest official statistics on the coronavirus cases in Warrington.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, a total of 1353 new cases were recorded in the town seven days leading up to October 14.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 646.1 cases among every 100,000 residents, which puts Warrington 38th in the case rates in the UK.

This is an increase from 1018 infections or 486.2 per 100,000 people in the week leading up to October 7.

Data for the most recent four days (October 15-18) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 377 local areas in the UK, 327 (87 per cent) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates and Warrington is one of them, whereas 50 (13 per cent) areas have seen a fall.

Ipswich in Suffolk has the highest rate in the UK, with 1,162 new cases in the seven days to October 14 - the equivalent of 854.5 per 100,000 people.

Wellingborough in Northamptonshire has the second-highest rate, up from 738.0 to 817.9, with 655 new cases.

Torfaen in Wales has the third-highest rate, up from 687.5 to 814.1, with 772 new cases.

In the north west, Wyre tops the rate of infections with 721.1 cases per 100,000 people

As of yesterday, Monday, there were 34 patients in Warrington Hospital – including three in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 539.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,386 inpatients have been discharged from the Lovely Lane site after receiving treatment for the virus.
