A CARRIAGEWAY is closed on the M56 following an accident this afternoon, Wednesday.
The eastbound side of the motorway at Stretton is currently blocked due to an overturned lorry.
All vehicles travelling eastbound are being brought off the carriageway at junction 10 to re-join via the entry slip road.
Heavy traffic is being reported as a result, stretching back five miles past junction 11 for Preston Brook.
In a tweet, National Highways North West said: “Please be aware that there are delays of up to 45 minutes on the approach to the collision on the M56 eastbound this afternoon.
“Traffic is queuing back to junction 11 near Runcorn. Please allow extra time for your journey or seek an alternative route if possible.”
National Highways traffic officers and North West Motorway Police are at the scene.
