CHESHIRE East recorded almost two times more coronavirus cases in one day than Cheshire West and Chester.

The figures show 177 new cases recorded in Cheshire West and Chester in the 24 hours up to 4pm today, compared with 363 cases in Cheshire East.

This is compared to 184 new cases in Cheshire West and Chester and 348 cases in Cheshire East in the previous 24-hour period.

The total number of cases in both boroughs now stands 40,116 in Cheshire West and 41,096 in Cheshire East.

The latest update means there have now been 1,421 cases in the last seven days in Cheshire West, giving the borough a seven-day case rate of 413.3 per 100,000 people.

There have been 1,844 cases in Cheshire East over the last week, meaning the borough’s seven-day case rate is now 476.9 per 100,000.

Nationally there were 36,480 new Covid-19 cases across the UK in the latest 24-hour period.
