A WREXHAM couple are celebrating 60 years of marriage today.

Hilary and Berwyn (known as Jack) Morris were married on September 23, 1961, at Wrexham Parish Church.

They both grew up in Penley so had known each other for a number of years as Jack was a friend of Hilary’s brother.

At the age of 17 Jack enlisted in the Army where he travelled the world.

In1955, after four years’ service he had to stay in Hightown Barracks in Wrexham while waiting to be discharged.

One night, by chance, he bumped into Hilary and they struck up a conversation. They arranged to meet up and the rest is history.

Jack worked for Rogers and Jacksons builder’s merchants and in 1971 started to work at Kents supplies Gwersyllt, later becoming a director of the company.

After various jobs Hilary became a lollipop lady working on the busy Mold road in Gwersyllt for 25 years.

They both retired in 1999.

They have two children, six grandchildren, including 18-year-old triplets Daragh, Luke and Sam Morris who were born at Wrexham Maelor and now live in ireland, and a great granddaughter.
