A WARRINGTON couple wanted to make a dream trip exploring the scenic Scottish Highlands a little bit different.

That is why they decided to tour the North Coast 500, Scotland's world-famous road trip, in a converted hearse dubbed the Grim Sleeper.

Shannon Orr, 24, and Iain Cameron, 31, drove from the town around the picturesque route at the start of this month.

Their eye-catching black vehicle has prompted so much interest that they have since started an Instagram account for it.

The couple bought the 1998 Volvo 960 Hearse already converted for £3,500 after seeing it advertised on a Facebook page for unusual cars a week before they were due to start their journey.

Warrington Guardian:

Their two dogs Billy and Peanut also joined them on the jaunt.

Shannon said: “We weren't looking for anything as we were originally going to camp while on the NC500, but we saw it on Facebook and had to get it because it was something neither of us had seen before.

“We didn't do any of the conversion as we bought it already converted, so we can’t claim anything for that sadly.

“All we have added up to now is the Halloween figures on the dash, the ducks on the wing mirrors and the skeletons on the front and back.”

Warrington Guardian:

As well as a bed, the hearse also boasts a sink, running water, a gas hob and a fridge.

Despite not converting it themselves, Shannon and Iain are planning to buy more unusual vehicles to convert themselves in the future, as well as hiring the Grim Sleeper out to others.

“We plan to use it for all our future road trips, but up to now we haven't planned where we are going next,” Shannon continued.

“But I'm sure it'll attract a lot of attention wherever we go.”

Admin worker Shannon said it was no different from a normal car to drive, except for sticking out in parking spaces.

Warrington Guardian:

Iain works as a mechanic and owns his own company called Culcheth Tyres.

Shannon added: “I think with it being a hearse it puts people of due to its previous passengers.

“But it just works so well as a camper if you can get past that part.”
