MORE than £1,000 was raised for Chester Cathedral's picturesque gardens thanks to a community fundraiser held in Farndon.
Guests enjoyed the wonderful gardens of Inger and Michael Trevor Barnston of Crewe Hill, Farndon, on Saturday, September 4.
Michael and Inger Trevor Barnston, who have previously held fundraisers for the Chester Mystery Plays, were delighted to open their gardens to raise funds for Chester Cathedral’s Gardens, a much-loved and open space in the city used by tourists and residents alike.
The day involved:

- Music from the Farndon & District Brass Band
- Author reading of Awesome Anselm and the Chester Imp, by Canon Jane Brooke
- Gardeners Question Time with Crewe Hill’s Head Gardener and the Team Leader of the Chester Cathedral Gardening Volunteers.
- A raffle where prizes included a Chester Cathedral Tower at Heights tour, Afternoon Tea in the Cathedral Refectory, a guided tour of the Cathedral and many more.
- Children’s trail and treasure hunt around the garden
Honoured guests included the High Sheriff of Cheshire (Robert Mee DL) and the Lord Mayor of Chester (Cllr Martyn Delany).
The Summer Garden party raised over £1,000 which will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the cathedral gardens.
