A CHESTER-BASED indie pop band are preparing to cross the border to perform at Theatr Clwyd’s outdoor festival stage.

Peaness, which formed in 2014, will be playing the Flintshire gig on August 27.

The trio have previously performed on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC6 Music and Radio X while touring festivals and venues across the UK.

The band are described as "shiny, shiny pop with an infectious energy and tunes as sharp as their fringes".

Theatr Clwyd caught up with Peaness – Balla, Jess and Rach – to find out more ahead of this month's gig.

How did you all meet and form the band?

"We all met while we were studying music at university and had our first ever band practice in Rach’s uni bedroom. We even recorded our first ever demos there too!"

What’s the story behind the bands unique name?

"It literally started as a bit of a joke and then we started releasing our music, by which point it was a bit too late to change the name. It’s definitely memorable if anything, so people won’t forget it in a hurry."

For people that might not have heard your music before what can they expect?

"Three-minute pop bangers with some sweet harmonies!"

How was lockdown for you all? You started a podcast?

"Starting the podcast was our saving grace during lockdown. It definitely us a space to vent our frustrations with not being able to play live throughout the last 18 months and we managed to get some totally snick guests for a couple of episodes.

"It was really comforting to be able to talk to some of our friends in the industry who were in the same boat as us."

2020 was looking to be a busy year for the band – what’s it like being able to perform live again?

"We were petrified in all honesty after not playing live for so long, but once we were on stage again it felt as though we had never left!"
