THE winner of this year’s Storrar Cowdry Prize for Fine Art has been announced.

Jagroop Bains said: “I am so very grateful to have been selected to receive The Storrar Cowdry Prize for Fine Art in recognition of all my hard work.

"I am also thankful to the university staff and my fellow students in making a supportive and an encouraging environment which has given me the drive to explore and develop alternative artistic styles.

"The Studio Practice final piece acts as a resolution for the eclectic new media approaches that I have undertaken over the years. This award has also given me the self assurance and dedication to further the skills I have obtained.

Once again I would like to thank Storrar Cowdry solicitors and those who worked alongside me throughout my degree.”

Mr Jeremy Turner, head of art and design at The University of Chester, said “The Department of Art & Design and particularly staff from the Fine Art programmes are delighted that Jagroop Bains has been awarded in recognition of her potential to continue, after graduation, as a practitioner of Fine Art”.

Jagroop was due to complete her BA (Hons) degree in English Literature & Fine Art this summer after a successful period of study.

However due to personal circumstances she has a deferred module in English Literature which will be assessed in July.

Mr Turner said “I have every confidence she will do very well.”

Darlene Storrar, managing partner at Storrar Cowdry Solicitors said: “As a city centre practice we are delighted to be able to support the Fine Arts degree course at the University of Chester in this way. It is a privilege to be able to offer them our continued support. Myself and colleagues are looking forward to seeing their online virtual exhibition.”
