BARONS Quay and the Northwich BID have come together to create an exciting flower trail that will encourage children to get outside and learn about British wildflowers this summer.

The Northwich Flower trail launches on Saturday (July 24) consists of 20 native plants, which can be found in locations around Barons Quay, Witton Street, Market Street and the High Street.

The beautiful blooms include well-known favourites as well as more unusual flowers that you may not have heard of.

Families who want to take part can pick up an activity sheet from The Entertainer store in Barons Quay or Northwich Library and then go in search of the Flower Trail floor stickers around the town.

Once you’ve found a flower you can learn all about it thanks to interactive QR codes which will provide participants with interesting facts and information as they go.

Completed sheets should then be posted in a special letterbox on level one of the travelator hall at Barons Quay to be entered into a free prize draw to win a £50 voucher for The Entertainer.

For a second chance to win parents can share their flower trail pictures on social media using #NorthwichFlower, tagging in Barons Quay and Visit Northwich, the best picture will win a £50 gift card for a Northwich shop or restaurant of the winner’s choice.

The flower-themed activity is part of the Northwich in Bloom entry for 2021, which looks to demonstrate horticultural excellence, community involvement and environmental friendliness.

As part of the project, two town-centre windows have also been given a floral make-over thanks to Cheshire artist Katie Kershaw who has created artworks at Barons Quay (opposite H&M) and Ivy Cottage Interiors, the new home shop on Crown Street.

Lina Higuita, Centre Manager at Barons Quay said: "This summer we want children and families to be able to have fun outdoors and enjoy a new sense of freedom.

"The Flower Trail is a great way to explore Northwich and learn about our native wildflower flowers, which are essential for protecting our wildlife and local environment.

"There are 10 flowers to find at Barons Quay, so keep your eyes peeled.

"We will also be giving you some clues on social media so make sure you follow us to find out more."

Northwich BID Project Manager, Adam Gerrard said: "With 20 flowers the trail will take people to every corner of the town, from Apple Market Place with the vibrant wildflowers to the ‘flower’ phone box on Witton Street.

"It’s an opportunity for children to explore their town and for adults to re-discover some of the fantastic businesses we have in Northwich, so I’d encourage people to come and enjoy this trail and support a local business at the same time."

The flower trail is on now and will run until the September 1, for more information on how to take part you can visit: visitnorthwich.co.uk/northwich-flower-trail.
