PLANS have been lodged for apartments at three adjoining Chester city centre buildings where planning consent has already been granted for new shop units on the ground floor.

The proposal is to convert the first and second floors of 15-23 Frodsham Street into three one-bedroom, two two-bedroom and one three-bedroom apartments.

It also includes a passenger lift for access to some of the apartments and the provision of six secured cycle storage stands inside the ground floor.

The plans submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council on behalf of owners Stanthorne Ltd come after planning permission was granted to create five separate shop units – with the addition of two new entrance doors – on the ground floor of three buildings which were constructed in the late 19th century.

Chester and District Standard:

Plans have been lodged to convert the ground floor of 15-23 Frodsham Street, Chester.

Part of the site features the former Yates's nightspot, which shut several years ago, before being more recently occupied by Level Two nightclub and Wolfie's Bar and Grill.

The central building, 17-21 Frodsham Street, was originally built as a printworks and is Grade II listed, while the third is a three-storey premises most recently used as a Chinese restaurant.

According to the listed building consent and full planning applications for the latest proposals, the owners say the creation of the apartments would secure the long-term future of the properties.

It states: "The site is currently vacant and in a poor state of repair. The conversion of the first and second floors to residential use will secure the long-term future of the building and deliver a comprehensive suite of refurbishment works."
