PUPILS of a Chester school competed for top honours in a range of fun events as part of their sports day.

The Firs Independent School, for boys and girls aged two to 11 years old, held thee junior and infant and early years sports days.

The Junior Sports Day was held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village where the children competed in over 25 events, including the 60m, 75m, 150m, 600m, the shot put, the standing board jump, the ball throw and of course relay races.

After successfully completing risk assessments for Public Health England, the Firs School was delighted to welcome one parent/carer per child to safely spectate the afternoon event.

Headteacher Rosemary Evans said: “The children were beyond excited and spent a wonderful afternoon, cheering, encouraging and supporting their friends.

"Some really had to dig deep as they competed and new school records were set, personal challenges were achieved and we were incredibly proud of them all!”

The school’s infant sports day was split into two days so that one parent/carer could safely spectate at the event and cheer on their child.

Year 1 and Year 2 children competed on the school field on various races, including the egg and spoon, sack race and obstacle course. Reception and Fir Cones pupils (aged 2-4 years old) enjoyed the same sporting events on another afternoon.

All the children competed in their houses - Hawks, Falcons and Eagles - after all the scores were totted up the winners of the 2021 Firs Junior Sports Day were Falcons and the winners of the Infant Sport Days were the Hawks.

The school headteacher added: "We were delighted that we could welcome one parent/carer to come and cheer on their child. It is such an important day for the children and they had so much fun competing. Congratulations to them all and a huge well done to all the participants.”
