A PAIR of heroic fishermen came to the aid of a dog stuck down a muddy bank leading to the River Dee.

The incident occurred on the banks of the River Dee in Holt on Saturday evening and saw the pair of fishermen execute a daring rescue of 16-year-old Ridgeback, Dora.

Dora had accidentally been knocked down the steep embankment into the deep mud on the edges of the river.

Dora's owner, Cloud Malone, said: "At the time, I thought with the help of my son and daughter, we would be okay.

"But the bank became impossibly slippy, and Dora sank deeper into the mud and started to panic."

She continued: "Two lovely fishermen, possibly Polish nationals, came to our aid from across the river.

"They jumped down the bank, got totally soaked and covered in mud, and helped push Dora back up to safety.

"She was very shaken, but is now recovering from the ordeal at home."

The selfless pair of fishermen missed their bus back into Wrexham during the ordeal, so Cloud gave them a lift home.

She added: "A massive thank you to all who were prepared to drop everything in order to help us out.

"It could easily have ended tragically, and I'm so grateful that there are such kind people who live in and visit our village."
