A VOLUNTEER helping Chester's homeless, a music and performance director and the founder of a group keeping West Cheshire fed during the Covid pandemic have all been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The Queen's Birthday Honours, along with the New Year Honours list, are designed to give recognition to those who have gone the extra mile to serve their community.

This year, several people in and around the Chester and Ellesmere Port areas have received a range of honours.

They are:

  • Susan Kerins (Susan Taylor), from Chester, lately deputy director, residential and accommodation support services division at the HM Prison and Probation Service. Made a CBE for public service.
  • Helen Anthony, from Chester, a volunteer at Soul Kitchen, Chester: Made an MBE for services to homeless people.
  • Sharon Devey, from Little Sutton, a well-being champion at the Child Maintenance Group, Department for Work and Pensions. Made an MBE for services to well-being in the workplace.
  • Graham Peter Phillips DL, from Middlewich, the County Commissioner, Cheshire Scouts and CEO of Cheshire Young Carers. Made an MBE for services to young people in Cheshire during Covid-19.
  • Victoria Phipps, from Ness, co-founder of D-Day Revisited. Made an MBE for services to veterans and the commemoration of the Second World War.
  • Matt Baker, from Chester, freelance director, music and performance for creative arts. Receives a BEM for services to music and the community in Chester during Covid-19.
  • Revd Christine Jones, founder of Working for Food Justice at West Cheshire Foodbank. Receives a BEM for services to the community in West Cheshire during Covid-19.
  • Robin Roberts MVO, from Chester, lieutenancy officer for Cheshire, is made LVO.

Two England footballers who live in Cheshire have also been recognised in the Birthday Honours.

Jordan Henderson, captain of Liverpool Football Club, who lives in Knutsford, is made an MBE for services to football and charity, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Raheem Sterling, who plays for Manchester City and is currently living in Crewe, is made an MBE for services to racial equality in sport.
