THE driver who died following a two-vehicle collision on the A56 has been formally identified as a 49-year-old man from the Chester area, police have confirmed.

An investigation was launched earlier this week following the incident in Dunham-on-the-Hill, near Helsby.

The man was driving a red Vauxhall car which was involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the A56 Chester Road at around 2.50pm on Saturday, May 29.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cheshire Police have confirmed today that the body has now been formally identified as a 49-year-old man from the Chester area.

The driver of the HGV, which was white and had a red trailer, is not believed to have been injured as a result of the collision.

He was spoken to at the scene.
