A FLINTSHIRE primary school will remain closed due to 'significant flooding'.

Queensferry Primary School confirmed they will be closed on May 17 due to flooding throughout the building.

However, due to the clean up operation, the school since confirmed they will remain closed on Tuesday, May 18.

It is hoped children will be back into the classroom on May 19th, but staff will review the situation tomorrow.

A spokesman for the school said on social media: "School is closed today due to significant flooding throughout the building. Apologies for the short notice but we will need to have the building assessed to ensure it is safe for children to return."

The school later shared a letter on social media.

It read: "It is with regret that the school will need to remain closed tomorrow Tuesday, 18th May due to the clean up operation following on from the flooding yesterday

"I am hopeful that we will be able to reopen on Wednesday, May 19th but will need to review the situation tomorrow.

"I can only sincerely apologise for the disruption this is causing. Class teachers will put out learning for all year groups again for tomorrow.

"Unfortunately there will not be the availability for hot school lunches for the remainder of this week but packed lunches will be available."

This weekend saw torrential downpours causing some flooding on major roads in the county.
