Helicopter rescues Dorset climber after knee dislocation

Coastguard rescue teams were called out to the scene of the incident near Swanage on Friday, May 14.

The male climber was in the amphitheatre area near to the western mile markers at Anvil Point, when he got into difficults.

He had been able to recover to a ledge until the emergency services arrived.

Teams from Swanage and St Albans Coastguard attended and set up a rope rescue but their efforts were hampered by thick undergrowth.

The air ambulance initially attended the scene, but with the coastguard helicopter on its way, it left the area to go to another incident.

The coastguard helicopter lowered the winchman to the ledge, providing medical treatment, before airlifting the male to Poole.

Southbourne and Poole Coastguard Teams were on hand to clear the landing site at Whitecliff Park.

The casualty was taken to Poole Hospital by ambulance.
