CHILDREN from Grosvenor Park Academy tasted a pizza Italy when they were given the run of a popular Chester restaurant.

Year 4 pupils were invited to La Fattoria on Lower Bridge Street to create their own dishes before tucking into their creations.

And it didn't cost a pretty penne thanks to the generous parents of a Grosvenor pupil.

Teacher Javan Sparks said: "The parents of one of my class members own La Fattoria and thought, as we were learning about the Romans this term, it would be interesting for the children to learn how to make some authentic Italian food.

"We learned how to make tagliatelle, ravioli and conchiglie, made our own pizza dough and learned how to shape the dough.

"The chef then combined the pasta we had made with a delicious sauce and made us some focaccia bread from our dough.

"We then tried some delicious Italian desserts.

"They gave us so much food that I had to be rolled back into school!

"We have used this experience to write instructions using sequencing language so that everyone will know how to make 'Angelo's Perfect Pasta'."

La Fattoria owner Agnese Esposito, who is mother to Year 4 pupil Sofia, said: "We love families and children, and we are well known in Chester for welcoming them here, it is the Italian way.

"It is not the first time the school has been here, and we have also had schools from Handbridge, so when I heard from their teacher they were learning about Roman food, I thought it would be great for them to come and see how the food is made."
