A NEWLY-REFURBISHED ice cream parlour on Chester's riverside has been put on the market with a guide price of nearly £50,000 to take over the lease.

At the River, based on the corner of Mill Street and Handbridge, launched at the beginning of last year but only traded for two months before closing as a result of the first Covid-19 lockdown.

The owner now wishes to sell the business in order to retire.

The ice cream parlour has been brought to the market by North West-based Blacks Business Brokers with a guide price of £49,950 to take over the lease, plus annual rent of £12,272.

The business is located next to the city’s Old Dee Bridge, opposite Edgar’s Field Park and close to Queen’s Park High School, Chester International School and the University of Chester’s Queen’s Park Campus.

At the River is based in the ground floor of the corner property, accommodating a fully-equipped servery, takeaway hatch, kitchen and storage area, as well as an enclosed yard with a toilet and parking for two vehicles.

Chester and District Standard:

Based on its early trading history, the business has projected turnover of £80,000 per year.

Megan Sutherst, sales negotiator at Blacks Business Brokers, said, “With summer on the way, England heading out of lockdown and students returning to campuses, this is the perfect time for a new owner to take over At the River and build on our client’s early success.

"The location really is fantastic – on the riverside and surrounded by some of Chester’s most important cultural assets, but also on the edge of a busy residential neighbourhood, with two schools in the immediate vicinity.

“Because the business has been completely refurbished by our client a new owner could come in and start trading immediately.

"Looking to opportunities in the longer term, they could also increase the range of products stocked in the shop, establish a social media presence, and perhaps even trade off-site at the various local ‘pop-up’ markets or introduce a delivery service.”
