AFTER we ran a story this week about concerns over whether it was right to allow Weaverham fun fair to take place, many of you shared your comments.

Peter Wakefield, who has lived in the village for decades said many residents were 'up in arms' about the decision of Weaverham Parish Council to give the go-ahead to the event with Covid restrictions still in place.

Despite further claims that several parish councillors were also against the idea, the acting Clerk of the council said none of those concerns were raised when permission was granted last month.

For many of our readers, it would seem the return of the fun fair was a most welcome sight as we ease our way back to normality.

Northwich Guardian: The fun fair at Weaverham has been a welcome sight for many, including Steve Smith who took these pictures.

Steve Smith, a fun fair enthusiast from Winsford, said he has known the fairgrounds in every town in Cheshire over the years and has kindly sent us some amazing photographs of the current fair.

He said: "I know all the showmen and families and for the last twenty years put on various shows on in Winsford.

"Their job is to bring pleasure to towns and after the pandemic.

"I think more than ever the fair is good for the mental wellbeing of all our families.

"We are doing so well in the UK now, we need these small steps, they make such a huge difference to getting us all back to some sort of normality."

After posting the initial story on our Facebook page, several readers left comments, including Carla Whittaker who took her son and his friend on Wednesday night.

She said: "Felt very covid safe; track and trace, hand sanitiser and we took our own.

"So nice for my child to go out and have fun and be a child rather than being stuck indoors.

"If you don't agree with it, don't go."

Rachel King, said she felt the fair being in the village was the same as all other outdoor attractions being, such as Chester Zoo and pubs and restaurants.

She said: "It is about time we can all see the smiles back on our children's faces and going to the fair or other attractions is still optional.

"So for those who aren't happy with it then continue to stay at home if that's what you would rather do and let others enjoy themselves if that's what they want to do."

Andrea King said: "We live by Lakehouse field and its lovely see the village getting back to normal.

"Stop moaning and let family's have a bit of fun.

"It's been along 15 months."

Emma Byrne commented: "Let the kids have fun.

"Mental health awareness week and after a year plus trapped indoors they need this."

Steve Stubbs said walking around the fair felt safer than walking around any shop or supermarket.

He added: "It is all outdoors, hand sanitiser everywhere you look and on all entrances and exits to rides.

"Why can't people just chill out and let people have that little bit of normality after a long year stuck inside the same four walls.

"We all know what we need to do to stay safe and as mentioned in the post the council have been and seen all precautions in place.

"Some people just need to chill, covid is never going to go away, we need to learn to live with it, so why not have some fun while also keeping safe.

"It was so nice to see the kids having fun and having that bit of normality."

The fun fair is taking place at Lakehouse Field and will be there until Sunday, May 16.
