E-SCOOTER riders in Swanage have been warned by police after a near-miss incident in the town.

Officers carried out patrols following complaints from members of the public.

A spokesman for Purbeck police said: "We have identified and spoken with those responsible. Needless to say this is an increasing issue in Swanage. Presently e-Scooters cannot be used in any place where the public have access. This includes roads and pavements."

Dorset Police issue warning to e-scooter riders

The BCP Council area is currently part of a national trial and offers Beryl e-scooters for use by the public.

The Beryl scooters can only be used in public areas because they are part of the trial and insurance is provided by Beryl.

Privately-owned scooters can currently only be used on private land.

Police have indicated that they will issue warnings in the first instance but have warned scooters could be confiscated from repeat offenders.
