MORE than nine in 10 Cheshire West and Chester residents aged 70 and over have now had both Covid vaccine jabs, new NHS figures show.

The latest weekly report showed that for Cheshire West and Chester, in the most recent available data (Sunday, May 2), almost everyone aged 70 or over who had received their first dose of a vaccine against coronavirus had now received a second dose too.

The latest figures also show nearly three-quarters of those aged 45-49 have now had their first dose of the vaccine too.

The rate of people being vaccinated in the UK has slowed slightly in the past couple of weeks, partly due to a relative lack of supplies and partly due to efforts to ensure younger adults will receive the Pfizer vaccine instead of AstraZeneca in the upcoming months.

However, increased numbers of vaccinations per week are expected later this month, with people in their 30s expected to be invited to get vaccinated.

As of May 2, the number of those in Cheshire West and Chester who had received vaccinations were, by age group, as follows:

  • 80+: 1st dose – 19,751. 2nd dose – 18,714. ONS population estimate – 19,929. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 99.1 per cent
  • 75-79: 1st dose – 14,661. 2nd dose – 14,050. ONS population estimate – 14,084. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 100 per cent*
  • 70-74: 1st dose – 20,058. 2nd dose – 18,403. ONS population estimate – 20,295. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 98.8 per cent
  • 65-69: 1st dose – 19,006. 2nd dose – 6,268. ONS population estimate – 19,884. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 95.6 per cent
  • 60-64: 1st dose – 21,670. 2nd dose – 5,154. ONS population estimate – 21,199. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 100 per cent*

  • 16-44: 1st dose – 32,865. 2nd dose – 10,647. ONS population estimate – 111,907. Percentage of those to receive a first dose: 29.4 per cent

* A couple of age demographics show the number of vaccinations administered has been higher than the estimated population for that age range, indicating the Office for National statistics underestimated the number of people living in the area in that demographic.

Nationally, 66.3 per cent of adults have now received their first Covid vaccination in the UK as of May 5, while 30.9 per cent have received both doses.
