A BRIDGE in Chester is to close to vehicles for 12 weeks for major strengthening works.
The refurbishment and strengthening works will take place at the bridge on Mannings Lane South, Hoole, will begin from May 17.
During the works, the road will need to be closed to vehicles for around 12 weeks. However, a temporary scaffold footbridge will be installed to the side of the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, but cyclists should dismount before crossing.

The Greenway below the bridge will also need to be closed for safety reasons to enable scaffolding to be erected and then the installation of strengthening steelwork beneath the bridge.
The council’s Director of Environment and Communities, Maria Byrne, said: “The works include for the excavation of the existing bridge deck and forming a new reinforced concrete slab, then waterproofing and resurfacing. Additional steel beams and brackets will then be installed beneath the bridge to strengthen the bridge deck.
“The council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these closures and thank local residents for their patience and support while we refurbish and strengthen this bridge.”
Signs on the Greenway will advertise these closures. The Greenway diversion will be from Lime Wood Fields down Thirlmere Road.
