POLICE have issued a warning after two "verbally abusive" males in a red van targeted an elderly resident in Ellesmere Port.

The incident happened at an address in Walnut Grove, Whitby, at around 11am yesterday.

The men turned up at the property and told the resident they were carrying out work on their driveway.

Despite the homeowner telling them they did not need any work doing, the pair were "insistent" and returned a short time later and started looking around the front and back of the property.

Luckily, a relative was alerted and arrived at the home to ask the men to leave.

The males were verbally abusive before they departed the scene.

Cheshire Constabulary's Whitby Police Facebook account posted: "At approximately 11am two males in a red Transit van attended an address in Walnut Grove where they told the resident they were carrying out work on the driveway.

"The resident told them they did not need any work doing but they were insistent and said they would be returning late.

"Around 10 minutes later the males have returned and were looking around the front and back of the property.

"Fortunately a relative had been contacted and attended the address and told them to leave, which they have but not after being verbally abusive.

"Please stay alert keep an eye out for neighbours who may fall victim to these type of unscrupulous people who take advantage of the elderly and vulnerable."
