A SECTION of motorway in Cheshire has now opened in both directions after a horse was rescued from a horsebox involved in a crash.

Two fire crews were called out to the collision between a HGV and the horsebox shortly before 10.45 am today (Sunday, April 18) on the M6 between junction 19 and junction 18 southbound.

On arrival firefighters found that a horse is trapped within the horsebox.

No injuries have been reported.

At midday a vet arrived to sedate the horse in order for it to be extracted from the vehicle.

Both southbound and northbound carriageways are closed.

Drivers are asked to remain in the vehicles while waiting for the scene to clear.

Shortly after 2pm firefighters had cut through the side of the horsebox and managed to rescue the horse.

The horse was placed into another horsebox and will be transferred to an equine hospital for precautionary checks.
