POLICE have issued a warning about the dangers of derelict buildings after catching some young trespassers in Ellesmere Port.

The youths were seen at the site of Station Hotel in Station Road, which is due to be demolished and replaced with apartments, on Sunday, April 11.

Police took to social media to urge parents to remind children that trespassing in such buildings can lead to them being injured.

Rossmore Police said: "Had to engage with some young people today after they were seen trespassing on the Station Hotel.

"We patrol this area for your safety. It may seem fun to explore unused buildings but there are many risks and potential injuries that could be sustained as a result of trespassing."

The iconic pub on Station Road, which was built in the 1870s, has fallen into disrepair after closing its doors for the final time back in 2017.

Last summer, developers Rose Business Services got the green light to knock down the locally listed building and replace it with two residential blocks containing 25 affordable apartments.

However, they since put forward a revised application to demolish the site and instead build one residential block with 19 apartments, creating more space for parking and landscaping.

Although it is locally listed, the Station Hotel is not a designated Grade II listed building and therefore has no statutory protection.
