CHESTER Zoo has made it into the top of five of attractions in the UK adults are most keen to visit once covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
In a nationwide poll by Uber, Kew Gardens, York’s Instagram-hotspot The Shambles and Edinburgh’s Royal Mile emerged as the top three post-lockdown destinations, with the British Museum, Chester Zoo and Alton Towers all making the top half of the list.
The survey of 2,069 UK adults, conducted by YouGov, revealed that 35 per cent of people also intend to visit a historical site once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
York Minster, Edinburgh Castle and the Roman Baths in Bath were the top three of those listed, followed by Arthur’s Seat and Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock.
In all, 74 per cent of UK adults said they intend to explore the UK’s towns, cities and sites of natural beauty this year, and 44 per cent claimed not being able to travel due to Covid-19 restrictions made them feel ‘trapped’.
According to the poll, the average UK adult thinks they will take two staycations this year, with, on average, six towns, cities or sites of natural beauty visited.
Jamie Heywood, regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, Uber, said: “During the pandemic we urged customers not to ride with us, instead offering discounted rides to NHS staff, carers and those with a vaccine appointment.
"As we slowly move out of lockdown, it’s encouraging to see that people are keen to explore what the rest of the UK has to offer and help get local economies back on their feet.”
