A UNIVERSITY of Chester graduate and guest lecturer has been hailed as a female game-changer and placed in the spotlight alongside global leaders and innovators.

Jennifer Hodgson has been featured in The Power Issue of Women of the City (WOTC) magazine which celebrates 120 female powerhouses and pioneers, reshaping their industries, one step at a time.

Jennifer, the founder and director of Chester-based MODA PR, appears in the issue with names such as Jacinda Ardern, JK Rowling and Vera Wang.

The 31-year-old also joined a panel discussion at the WOTC ‘Now Woman’ Summit, which has given a platform to an array of global leaders, industry experts and members of the WOTC team.

Jennifer is a guest lecturer in fashion marketing and communication at the University of Chester, where she also obtained her first-class Fashion Marketing and Communication degree. She returned to education, after two previous attempts in her early 20s, and completed her degree at the age of 28.

She has worked for notable publications and PR agencies and launched MODA PR in early 2020 after resigning from her previous position; just one week before the global lockdown.

The boutique PR company offers clients public relations, representation and brand management. Her client list includes beauty destination Doll Beauty and award-winning training provider Million Dollar Facial.

MODA PR started as a response to the Contemporary Fashion Business module Jennifer undertook in her third year in Fashion Marketing and Communication.

Within the first three weeks of its launch, MODA PR had already acquired three long-term clients – and the company has seen substantial growth despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Jennifer said: “Being featured in the WOTC Power Issue was a huge honour for me. The majority of these women have had incredible careers so far and to be sat alongside them was very humbling.

“It was also fantastic to be part of the panel discussion. I think it's really important to be able to give back and pay it forward wherever you can, which is why taking the time out of your day or busy schedules to educate the next generation is vital.

“I quit my job and started my business during the first lockdown and I didn’t think for a second that I'd be where I am today. So for the support of family and peers I'm very grateful. Never give up on your dream.”

Associate Professor Bernadine Murray, head of department for Art and Design at the University of Chester said: “Our graduates are making a difference and we’re extremely proud of Jennifer. She is forging ahead in the world of fashion and her achievements are being noted internationally.

“She is an inspiration and we are delighted that she has continued to be part of the University after graduating and following her dream career; sharing her drive and expertise with students as a guest lecturer.”

WOTC magazine is described as “the number one women’s magazine on enterprise; cheerleading girl bosses, momagers and professional women worldwide”.
