A MAJOR milestone has been reached with more than 100,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine having now been administered across Cheshire West and Chester.

Over 5,000 people in the borough have also now received their second life-saving jab.

The news comes as residents aged 60-64 are set to receive a letter in the next week inviting them to come forward for a Covid-19 vaccination, Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group has confirmed.

Council leader Louise Gittins said: “The council is extremely proud to be working alongside the NHS partners and vaccine partners in the delivery of the vaccine programme.

“Reaching the 100,000 milestone for vaccine doses in Cheshire West and Chester is a fantastic achievement and is the result of a collaborative team effort from a number of organisations and partners.

“I urge everyone in the borough to continue to do all you can to stop the spread of Covid-19. Always remember hands, face, space - we must always be on our guard against this virus. Let’s turn this around.”

Ian Ashworth, director of public health at Cheshire West and Chester Council, added: “Reaching 100,000 vaccine doses is a major effort by all parties involved, I am delighted that we have reached this milestone.

“While the vaccination is continuing to be rolled out, it is as important as ever to remember to keep washing your hands regularly, cover your face when in an enclosed space and keep social distancing to stop the spread of Covid-19, we mustn’t let our guard down.”

Meanwhile, the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has not recorded any additional Covid-19 patient deaths in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to NHS England data.
