FIVE of the six newly recorded Covid patient deaths in Cheshire hospitals were at the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust, latest data has shown.

NHS England data shows that the trust, which covers both the Chester and Ellesmere Port hospital sites, sadly recorded five deaths; four Covid patients died on Saturday, February 13, the other on Sunday, February 14.

In addition, one Covid patient died at the Warrington & Halton hospital trust on Sunday, February 14.

The total number of Covid-19 patient deaths recorded in Cheshire's hospital trusts since the coronavirus pandemic began is:

  • Countess of Chester: 562
  • East Cheshire: 295
  • Mid Cheshire: 454
  • Warrington and Halton: 432
  • Total: 1,743

The daily NHS England data provides information on deaths of patients who have died in hospitals in England after testing positive for Covid-19, split by trust.

Across England, a further 231 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 79,120.

Patients were aged between 31 and 102 years old. All except 12 (aged 53 to 92 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from 24 December 2020 to 14 February 2021, with the majority being on or after 11 February.

Their families have been informed.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 34
  • London - 32
  • Midlands - 67
  • North East & Yorkshire - 49
  • North West - 16
  • South East – 27
  • South West - 6

The latest seven-day coronavirus infection rate for west Cheshire now stands at 156.5 (up to February 10), slightly above the UK average of 149.7.

The west Cheshire number has fallen steadily from its peak of 625.5, recorded in the seven days up to January 4.

A total of 44 new Covid cases were confirmed, resulting in the latest seven-day total to 476; a fall of more than a quarter on the figure from the previous seven days – 643.
