MORE than 60 sheep valued at around £9,000 have been reported stolen from land near Beeston Castle.
Police are investigating the alleged theft from a field in Crimes Lane yesterday (February 7) and urged anyone with information to come forward.
A total of 63 sheep, understood to be pregnant ewes, have been reported stolen.
PC Jim Clark, of Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team, said: "This morning (February 8) I am in the west of the county regarding reports of livestock theft, a large number of sheep have been reported stolen.
"Approximately nine thousand pounds worth of livestock are alleged to have been taken.
"Clearly this number of sheep isn't just an accident or a few wandering off.
"The local area has been checked by the owners and considering the fact that the fields were relatively sheep escape proof this points to a deliberate act.
"We will continue to proactively stop vehicles carrying livestock and we would ask the public to report any suspicious activities around your farms or livestock.
"Especially livestock wagons or trailers that appear unfamiliar.
"If you have any information surrounding this theft please contact via the 101 system, IML 912645 refers. The investigation continues so please refrain from naming or posting unsubstantiated comments."
Tattenhall & Malpas Police Facebook account posted earlier today: "Yesterday 63 sheep were taken from a field on Crimes Lane, Beeston. If you have any information about the incident please contact Cheshire Police on the 101 non-emergency number."
