GP-led Covid-19 vaccinations will start in Ellesmere Port on January 16, it has been confirmed.

The life-saving jab will be administered at the town's Civic Hall.

One Ellesmere Port Primary Care Network, comprising the town's six GP practices which are working together to deliver the vaccine, are now in the process of contacting eligible patients.

It said: "We are expecting our first delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine and plan to begin delivering these on Saturday 16th January to patients over 80 years old.

"Our 6 GP Practices in Ellesmere Port will be working together to deliver the vaccine from Ellesmere Port Civic Hall.

"We understand that people are anxious to receive a Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

"However, please don't contact your GP practice, local hospital or council to seek a Covid-19 vaccine appointment – appointments cannot be made in this way.

"We are beginning to contact our patients to invite them to the vaccination clinic. If you’re eligible for a vaccine, but are yet to be contacted, please remain patient. You will not be missed.

"This is just the beginning of the largest vaccination programme the country has ever seen and we will make sure that the people who need it most (and those that care for them) are able to access the vaccine in a safe way with the least delay.

"When you are invited for a vaccine, please act on your invite and make sure you attend appointments when you arrange them.

"Please also continue to wear a face covering and follow social distancing and hand hygiene guidance as, until a vaccine has been fully rolled out, this is the most effective way to reduce transmission of the virus and help save lives."

Patients are advised of the following important information:

  • On the day if you feel unwell or experience COVID-19 (Coronavirus) like symptoms do not attend. Please contact your surgery and they will re-book your appointment.
  • Please do not arrive early, there is no waiting area and we need to reduce the number of people in the building in order to socially distance.
  • Please bring your own mask or appropriate face covering. If you don’t have one, there will be a mask for you to wear during your vaccination.
  • Please use the toilet before you attend. There are no toilet facilities on site for patients for infection prevention control measures.
