A TOTAL of 333 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Cheshire West and Chester, according to the latest Government data.
It represents the second highest one-day increase recorded in the borough since the start of the pandemic.
The record increase over a 24-hour period remains the 379 new cases that were confirmed on December 31 last year.
There have now been a total of 13,477 cases recorded since the beginning of the crisis.
The weekly infection rate for the borough – in the seven-day period up to December 31 – has soared to 479.2 per 100,000 people.
In the previous seven-day period, up to Christmas Eve, the rate stood at 272.
In England, the most up to date figures show 786,000 people have received their first vaccination against Covid-19.
It is expected that in the weeks to come, more localised data for vaccinations will become available, meaning The Standard will be able to provide a running total on how many have been vaccinated in the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust area.
