A LIEUTENANT Colonel from Chester has been made an MBE.
Mark Hughes, of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, has been recognised in the New Year Honours for his services to peace in South Sudan from 2017-2020.
Lt Col Hughes, of Saighton, is due to retire in April 2021 after 30 years of military service in both the Royal Marines and the Army.
Earlier this year he celebrated a rare achievement when he received his Long Service Medal for the Army having already been bestowed the same honour from the Navy.
He moved to Saighton in 2015 where he has since been part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus before going on to serve in Palestine and later in South Sudan as the Defence Attaché.
Over 300 Army personnel were recognised in the New Year Honours List.
