CHESTER Zoo has issued an update after the borough was placed into Tier 4 Covid-19 restrictions from tomorrow (December 31).

The popular attraction can remain open under the toughest measures – but visitor numbers are limited and only those living in the area are eligible to go.

The zoo said: "From Thursday 31 December we will be entering into the Government's Tier 4 restrictions, but you CAN still visit the zoo and enjoy our 128 acres of zoological gardens."

It added:

  • The zoo is open (please travel within your area).
  • Visitor numbers are limited.
  • Visitors must pre-book tickets via our website – members will not need to book from 4 January.
  • Only visit the zoo with your household (or support bubble).
  • All indoor animal houses will be closed – but many of our 35,000 animals can be seen outside.
  • Outdoor play areas will remain open.
  • Our cafés and food kiosks will only offer takeaway service – feel free to bring a picnic.
  • Gift shops will be closed – but you can order online and collect at the zoo.
  • The Oakfield pub will remain closed.

If you live outside of the local area and have a visit planned then the zoo will transfer your booking to another date, up to April 30 next year 2021.
