REDS legend Arfon Griffiths says Peter Moore’s involvement in Wrexham Football Club’s sensational takeover is great news.

Hollywood film stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are close to finalising a deal to buy the club from the Wrexham Supporters Trust and former Liverpool chief executive Moore has been enticed into helping out in an advisory role when the takeover eventually goes through.

Griffiths - Wrexham record appearance holder and the manager of their greatest team ever in the Division Three championship winning 1977/78 side - said: “The news that Peter Moore is going to be involved is one of the best things to come out of this.

“I’ve said before that you need the right people at the club and the experience Peter has will be invaluable.”

Griffiths remembers Moore before he headed out from Marford, where his parents ran The Red Lion pub, to America

He recalled: “I remember Peter going off to America to coach. He was a good lad.”

And the feeling is obviously mutual after Moore first tweeted: “I marvelled at Albert Kinsey’s nose for goal, idolised the brick wall that was Eddie May, was in awe of the midfield ace Arfon Griffiths, and revelled in the 100% commitment of Joey Jones.”

Griffiths, who lives in Gresford where Moore is honourary president of the village football club, added: “As a Wrexham fan, I’m annoyed that the club has found itself languishing in non league football. The Trust have done a good job in keeping the club going but if you want to succeed, money talks and it looks as if these guys are going to put a lot of money in.”
