FANS aren't allowed in some grounds nowadays and 30 years ago Scarborough and Wrexham would liked to have used that excuse as only 625 bothered to turn up for their Division Four fixture.

And Wrexham certainly had their chips at the soon-to-be-renamed McCain Stadium where the hosts raced to a 3-0 lead inside 23 minutes.

Two of the goals were scored by George Oghani, who failed to find the target once in his seven game loan spell at The Racecourse three years earlier.

Geoff Hunter and Chris Armstrong gave the handful of Wrexham fans something to shout about as it ended 4-2.

Once again, it's cup games that dominate this day over the years.

Just over 10,000 watched John Lyons - in for the cup-tied Dixie McNeil - and Graham Whittle score in a 2-0 win over Swindon Town in 1977.

The victory set up a League Cup quarter-final with Liverpool.

Steve Watkin's only goal of the game at home to Telford in 1991 was just as important. It set up the FA Cup third round tie against Arsenal where Watkin would score the winner in one of the biggest giant-killing acts ever in the competition.

Two more second round ties ended 2-2 - at home to Scunthorpe in 1996 and 11 years earlier at Notts County.

Watkin was again on the scoresheet along with Steve Morris against Scunthorpe while Barry Horne and Dave Gregory got the goals at Meadow Lane.

But there were second round exits to Chesterfield (2-1 in 1968) and Hull City (2-0 in 1963).

Two Welsh Cup ties were also played on December 7 - a 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff in 1993 and a 5-0 victory against Connah's Quay in 1979.

Ian Edwards hit a hat-trick with Dixie McNeil and Les Cartwright also on the scoresheet.
