A COMMUNITY has rallied together and raised more than £1,000 to support a self-funded animal sanctuary in Chester.

The much-needed cash will be used to help provide food and bedding for the rescued horses and donkeys that reside at Lache Animal Sanctuary, just off Green Lane.

The sanctuary, which has been operating for more than 35 years, has sadly been targeted by thieves in recent years.

Resident Anya Lawson launched the online GoFundMe page with a target of raising £300 but thanks to the generosity of the community has amassed £1,035.

She said: "The donkey sanctuary, Green Lane, Chester, has been operating for 37 years. They need some help for food for these beautiful animals.

"As a community we have been fundraising and are trying to help. All of the animals are rescue cases, they have eight donkeys and eight horses."
