A TRAVELLER site in Davenham could expand with four new pitches if new plans are approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Julie Charlotte has submitted plans for Oakland Park, next to the Peckmill Roundabout, which currently has permission for eight pitches.

In her application, Mrs Charlotte says it ‘would bring immeasurable relief’ to four of her relatives in need of somewhere settled to stay if CWAC approved the plans – which would take the total number of pitches on the site to 12.

She said: “It is urgent that I apply for additional caravan plots as four members of my immediate family are currently homeless, having no fixed abode and having to move from site to site.

“Particularly with winter and Covid limitations, they are desperate to settle at a fixed site and I currently have sufficient area on my approved site to accommodate them without loss of open space to my current occupants.”

The proposal also includes a new amenity toilet block, and Mrs Charlotte added that provide additional tree screening would be provided for the site if the plans are approved.

Oakland Park has a long planning history, as CWAC turned down the original proposal for just two pitches on the site, but this decision was overturned at appeal in March 2013.

The Charlotte family then secured permission from CWAC to treble the number of pitches on the site in October 2014, before getting the green light for the seventh and eight pitches in July 2015.

Davenham Parish Council opposed the most recent of those plans five years ago, insisting it would be an ‘overdevelopment of the site’ to allow eight pitches on Oakland Park.
