POLICE have launched an investigation into "a number of malicious rumours" posted on social media relating to schools in the Ellesmere Port and Neston area.
Cheshire Constabulary has confirmed that a 14-year-old boy has been spoken to by officers as part of the probe.
It is understood the rumours are in relation to alleged threats being made towards a school.
The force added that there is "not believed to be any risk" posed.
Inspector Paul Fegan, from Ellesmere Port Local Policing unit, said: "I would like to reassure parents that there is not believed to be any risk.
"We are working closely with the schools and we have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance."
