CHESHIRE East and West boroughs will learn today, November 26, what new tier they will enter when the national coronavirus lockdown ends next week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the second English lockdown would be replaced by a tougher tier system on Monday.

The new restrictions will come into effect next Wednesday, December 2, with a five-day break for Christmas from December 23 to 27 – when three households will be able to mix indoors anywhere in the UK.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is due to give a statement in the House of Commons this morning, when he is expected to confirm which areas will be in which tiers.

He is due to give that statement to MPs at 11.30am.

Mr Johnson will also hold a press conference later today, with the time for that yet to be confirmed.

Speaking to Sky News this morning, Chancellor Rishi Sunak said people will ‘see a difference’ when England’s national lockdown ends next week – even though more areas are expecting to be placed in the higher two tiers than last time.

“Whichever tier you’re in I think people will see a tangible change,” he said.

“That said, things are obviously not normal and I can’t pretend that next week things are going to feel like they were before the spring.”
